THE JULIA HOTEL: Charm of SOFI

If you manage to spend more time on South Beach than in your hotel room, right on!

You may have gotten plenty of tan time on the sand, and dips in the ocean, but feel bummed that you didn’t take advantage of hotel amenities after dropping a wad of cash booking a pricey room.

What good is checking into a lavish hotel with a pool, spa and live entertainment at the bar when you pretty darn well know you plan to hit the town and avoid the hotel as much as possible.

If you’re one of those vacationers, you should probably consider making your next Miami-stay a guilt-free one at The Julia Hotel.

To start, the gorgeous Miami weather makes it hard to stay indoors, and there are few reasons for you to anyway. The Julia embraces minimalism offering just the bare necessities that make for an easy and comfortable stay. The hotel lobby is quiet and activity is at a minimum with guests who seem more like your neighbors.

The adult exclusive 29-room hotel is located in Miami’s South of Fifth neighborhood, also known as SOFI, just one block away from the beach. At night, it is surrounded by South Beach nightlife, making it a happening place to be.

The Julia Hotel is a throwback to grand old Miami and feels as if you have entered into the private property of the proclaimed Miami founder Julia Tuttle, for which the property draws its inspiration from. The Mother of Miami was an American businesswoman who is widely responsible for the land that Miami, Florida was built on.

The Julia incorporates the rich history of Miami in a modern and intriguing way with original artwork and gorgeous interior design. It features art installations throughout the hotel starting in the lobby and following you to your room. Each piece of art has a message to be seen and interpreted. The storytelling continues in the guest rooms with paper cutouts in the style of Matisse, by Canadian artist, Edward Bader, featuring faceless vacationers floating in serene pools of color.

The five featured two story Ibis rooms each have different installations in their 20-foot tall ceilings. One room creates a swarm of Miami blue butterflies by Kiyoto paper artist Yumiko, and another features parasols dreamily floating away on an imagined Miami tropical breeze.

Millennium Magazine experienced The Flagler King, The Julia’s luxurious room features a contemporary, modern design with a king sized bed and private bathroom. Electrical outlets are conveniently placed throughout the space for recharging mobile devices. The compact room offers just enough space where one never feels cramped.
