FLANAGANS: THE HEART OF MAIN

By Nissa Alloy & Lauren Clarke-Bennett

Participating in the Sundance Film Festival encompasses a myriad of continual events from Red Carpets to screenings, concerts, to parties and gifting lounges to panels that can lead to exhaustion.

Spending time on the Main Street of Park City also known as “Old Town” where many of these experiences take place, Millennium Magazine found comfort in the Irish pub and local favorite; Flanagan’s On Main.

Reminiscent of ‘Cheers; where everybody knows your name’, our clan along with festival celebs like singer/songwriter Joe Keefe from Family of The Year, Mark Ballas from Dancing With The Stars and fiance BC Jean who comprise the hit band Alexander Jean were seen at the hot spot having a generous drink and delicious eats. If we weren’t warmly greeted by owner John Kenworthy known as JK or his stunning wife Nancy with a gracious smile and hello, it was bar manager Tommy with a big bear hug or Gm Greg with his always pleasant and accommodating demeanor. Not only is the menu super appealing but the inviting ambience reflects JK’s rich family history that was chronicled in the movie ‘Boys Town’ and his reason for naming the establishment after Father ‘Flanagan’. Feeling like family is the sentiment this restaurant evokes and will always keep us coming back.

You would think that being an Irish pub would mean the menu constitutes typical bar food but Park City warrants an elevated palette. A favorite are the mussels in a curry cream sauce that is so flavorful you will want to dip into the sauce with a piece of crusty French bread or fries and sip it like soup with a spoon. Hungry for a healthy and light meal? Salad or veggies substituted with their delish grilled salmon can be had upon special request and without hesitation. Some Irish favorites are top notch like Fish & Chips, Irish Stew or the Boxty a traditional savory potato pancake served with chicken or beef and topped with amazing sauces. Yummy!

In addition to the restaurant there is a lower level to Flanagans pub called Shenanigans with a segregated VIP section for the plethora of celebs that included a portion of Bravo’s hit reality series Vanderpump Rules’s Jax Taylor, Kriston Doute, Scheana Shay, Katie Maloney, Ariana Madix, Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz. And where music legends that included Ritchie Sambora, John Popper, Matisyahu and Tom Petty have been spotted wailing the nights away. This intimate gathering place is a great get away from the hustle and bustle of the Sundance Film Festival — perfect for some laid-back fun!
