Romantic Thriller Released Nationwide Now in Theaters
In the wake of Hollywood’s diversity crises which includes the highly criticized jokes about Asians during the 2016 Academy Awards telecast, comes a refreshing collaborative film project where ‘East meets West.’
Asian American director Jonathan Lim chose to work with a diverse cast in the new film PALI ROAD, while developing and executing a story that works for two very different audiences. Shot entirely in Hawaii, PALI ROAD is first Chinese-Hawaii Co-production film.
“I don’t like to think diversity is one reason to watch a film, but by embracing diversity we can tell a unique story, an original story,” says Lim.
PALI ROAD stars Michelle Chen (You Are The Apple Of My Eye), Jackson Rathbone (Twilight series), Sung Kang (Fast and Furious series) and Henry Ian Cusick (Lost, The 100). Director Lim’s romantic thriller PALI ROAD opened April 29th in select AMC, Regal and Consolidated theaters nationwide.
“Michelle always play the girl next door parts in China, she was an actual international student here in the US and could relate to being in between,” said Lim.
PALI ROAD is a mysterious and thrilling journey in search for true love between two different worlds. Lily (Chen), a young doctor, wakes up from a car accident and discovers she is living a completely different life. Now married to her boyfriend’s rival, Dr. Mitch Kayne (Kang), and a mother to a 5-year-old son, she has an established life she remembers nothing about.
Everyone around her denies that her boyfriend Neil (Rathbone) ever existed. As Lily begins to doubt her own sanity, memories of Neil resurface, causing her to encounter unexplainable incidents. While desperately searching for the truth of her past life, she questions her entire existence; but in the end, she discovers the meaning of true love.
“We’re very excited by this opportunity to work with the exhibitors in bringing PALI ROAD to audiences across the country,” said Lim, “I think in a year where the demand for diversity in media has grown so strong, I hope that PALI ROAD can be an example of not just breaking stereotypes, but how diversity in film can lead to unique engaging and original storylines.”
“AMC continues to champion diverse storytelling and support quality independent films that are relevant to our guests,” said Nikkole Denson-Randolph, vice president, Alternative & Special Content at AMC Theatres. “As such, PALI ROAD is a great fit for our AMCi (AMC independent) lineup of diverse content.”
PALI ROAD has been nominated for the Grand Jury Award for Best Feature Narrative Film at the upcoming 32nd Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. PALI ROAD also received an Honorable mention for Best Feature Narrative at CAAMFest 2016 and was nominated for the Halekulani Award for Best Feature Narrative at last year’s Hawaii International Film Festival. Tickets are now on sale and more information about the film can be viewed at their official website. www.paliroadfilm.com
