In New York from May 10 to May 13, Randall’s Island Park

What better way to while away a May afternoon than strolling through a bright white pavilion on the banks of the East River filled with the most exciting contemporary art gathered from galleries all over the world? And when this brilliant barrage of images becomes over stimulating, step outside for a walk through the Sculpture Park to gaze upon public-scale work from established and emerging artists, powerful pieces ranging from the abstract to the humorous.  But before heading to the Ferry to return to Manhattan, linger awhile to enjoy a cold drink outside in the almost-summer breeze and ponder the forward-thinking work that brings an international focus to the dynamic contemporary art scene in New York.

No doubt about it exercising the mind can make you hungry. So be prepared to devour the food as much as the art at Frieze, it’s all worth the short journey to Randall’s Island.  Do make a day of it and explore dining options from some of New York’s finest, Blue Bottle Coffee, Court Street Grocers, Frankies Spuntino, Marlow & Sons, Mission Chinese Food, Roberta’s, Sant Ambroeus, and The Fat Radish.

Frieze is, for art enthusiasts and collectors, a chance to see and buy art by over 1,000 of the world’s leading artists, but it offers more than just an innovative gallery experience. Visitors can experience Frieze Projects, the fair’s program of artists’ specially commissioned projects and Frieze Talks, a program of debates, panel discussions and keynote lectures. The fair also includes Frame, a section dedicated to solo artist presentations by emerging galleries and Focus galleries which present curated projects and artworks specially conceived for Frieze New York.

Inspiration abounds in this spacious, airy setting and energized atmosphere.  It’s an experience that offers intellectual reward and creative insights – and lets you enjoy it all in the most delightful way.  Frieze New York is housed in a bespoke temporary structure designed by New York-based SO – IL architects.

For tickets (cost is $42 for one day and the fair does sell out) and transportation directions to Randall’s Island Park (accessible by shuttle bus or ferry) see www.friezenewyork.com
