Sean Edison Salon Hits The Hamptons

By Heather Bryce

One evening while sipping rosé at a Southampton party, I asked a lovely blonde with soft cascading tresses who had done her hair.

“Him,” she said, gesturing to the man next to her.

“Make my hair look like hers,” I said, and Presto! He did.

Sean Edison opened his salon in Sag Harbor last year, making it the seventh hair studio in the quaint former whaling town known more for artists and writers than stylists. “Hair is the new art,” he said, referring as much to the new asymmetrical cuts and colorful extensions as to the proliferation of local salons.

The salon, which counts Joy Behar, Ken Olin, and Bethenny Frankel as clients, is the only salon in the Hamptons with Aerovex Healthy Air, a ventilation system that vacuums the stinky toxic fumes that emanate from Brazilian Blowouts and Keratin treatments.

Though everything in the salon is cutting edge, Edison himself is like an old-fashioned family doctor, taking time to diagnose problem areas, and explaining in depth his cure. “You need to deposit color, not lift it.” He added a depth of pigment that gave zing to my formerly washed out mane while executing a masterful cut. I’m hooked.
