Frozen in the Polar Vortex? Private jet stuck in snow at Teterboro? Is the vacation in the Bahamas a distant memory now? Forget Metro North – going nowhere fast? Well climb down off that ledge, jump off that stalled commuter train, turn the limo around and head to Tribeca’s Brandy Library where a cognac by the fire or a martini at the bar will take the edge off the winter blues….even if you insist on having ice in your libation of choice, you’ll be warm and relaxed the moment you swirl a drink in your hand.

Cozy and clubby the space is comfortably luxe. Their collection of nearly 1,000 bottles – Cognac, Armagnac, Scotch Whiskies and more – some exquisitely rare, others easily accessible – line the shelves imparting a golden glow even before you start to sip. Joel Flores, Spirits Sommelier, will guide you to the perfect choice – prefer a brandy that’s rich and oaky or lighter and almost floral in its essence? Desire a scotch on the rocks or a dirty martini straight up? He’s the ultimate matchmaker when it comes to choosing the right spirit to imbibe. Indeed he confesses the destination is date night choice for women bringing men – so ladies, treat your man right and bring him to the Brandy Library this Valentine’s! No need to feel pressure to pop the question, Joel says it’s an infrequent occurrence as this Library is more about easy, friendly relaxation than outright intimate drinks à deux. But as the city freezes over, accept Joel’s invitation to find a quantum of solace in this downtown den.

It is open Sunday through Wednesday starting at 5:00 pm. Thursday through Saturday this cozy refuge opens at 4:00 pm. Last call is 4:00 a.m. Thursday and Friday. Call for hours and information,

(212) 226-5545. A glass of cognac can be had for as little as $12 or as much as $235. Classic cocktails and wine are also available as are hors d’oeuvres and desserts. Reservations are suggested unless you’re dropping in late or on the early side.
